hello MFK!
i need :1zhelp: with an ID again

i just picked up this catfish. it was labled as "Brachyplatystoma cf. Vaillanti".
and now iam wondering if you guys can confirm this? because i dont even really know what a "regular" B. Vaillanti looks like :shakehead

That doesnt look like vaillanti to me, but honestly I have never seen one that small.

edit*

Im looking in the catfish atlas and there is a pim that is labled as "Iheringicthys sp"..its looks VERY simaler. Even has the white stripe along the lateral line.

i agree with the above. It looks very identical to Iheringicthys sp. (possibly megalops)

It may very well be a vaillanti. As I understand it, juveniles at this stage has very little resemblance to the adult/semi-adult.

At this point, you will have to wait a little until it grows bigger.

No not a B vaillanti.Probably Iheringicthys:)

I wouldn't put my money on it being a vaillanti, but it might be. I also saw a small juvenile at the lfs not so long ago, and they were asking $50. if it was a regular catfish, it wouldn't be this much.

ok, Iheringicthys sp. thank you guys, very much!! :)

i found this pic:
http://www.raubwelse.de/galerie/raubwelse/rw003.htm
looks just like mine, and planetcatfish has the same pic, but labeled as Iheringicthys sp.

also found this one:
http://www.aqua-terra-net.de/Hydro/Sonder/welse/raubwelse/Bilder/w001.jpg
looks much like the one i got but bigger.
(site was german tho :( )

but, does any of guys know how big Iheringicthys sp. gets?

The one in the second pic is a Brachyplatystoma sp.

what a bummer this is!!

but if it wasnt for you guys i would probably still think it was a brachyplatystoma, so thanks a lot! :clap
