Are you referring to Microphis brachyurus aculeatus? The giant freshwater pipefish?

Haven't kept pipefishes in a long time. What I remember about this species is:
-they're from Senegal to Angola, Africa.
-Both sexes grow to 7.5 - 8"
-pH is between 7.5 and 8.0
-temp should be 75F - 79F
-they're demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine
-they eat only moving foods (preferably alive) and adults can handle male-size guppies.
-they do best in heavily planted tanks

I suppose. They're not commonly found in the hobby. If you can find them, get a pair and try spawning them.
