hey its me again. im working on fixn my 300 gal tank and was wondering. the thickness of the tank is only .5 of an inch. is this thick enough? i am having some .5 by .75 inch bar stock made up for bracing in all the corners top, bottom, and sides. do you guys think this will strengthen the tank up? or am i wasting my time? any help would be appreciated.

1/2" is fine as long as it is not over 24" tall. What do you mean by bar stock? Are you talking about metal?

why would it be a waste? the way i see it, it has two extra sides to bond to(the original, and the two sides that touch of the bar stock). the bar stock will run the entire length of the seam. im not trying to argue just trying to get the facts.

Are you going to use weld on to bond the bars into the seams? I don't know what your tank looks like but if you were going to do it I would do around the top and bottom but not in the vertical corners especially the front. That wouldn't look to good if you put them there. You probably don't need to do it, but if it gives you piece of mind then go for it.

i am using weld on. and the tank is a little on the old side so "just in case".
