I posted this on the glass thickness sticky thread but no answer so I am putting it here.

I picked up a 24x24x72 tank with 3/4 inch thick bottom and 1/2 inch thick vertical sides. There is not any bracing on the top, should I add bracing and if so where.
It appears to be well made but I am a little concerned about the lack of bracing.
Got a great Cabinet stand with it and want to get it set up and get back into the "hobby".
It appears to have never been used.

I have been away from the Hobby for several years but now getting back in.

post some pix if possible please...

Not able to post pics right now but it seems to be a "factory" built tank. I just want to get some opinions on whether it needs any top bracing with the thickness of glass and the size of tank.

By the way I will be getting with you soon for some "scrubbies". I have room in the cabinet for a good sized wet/dry bio filter.

No problem just let me know what you need...~Ben

Is it cleated in the bottom? IMO any tank that size should either be eurobraced, have staggered braces, or one large middle brace. Whoever built that tank seems to be lacking a brain. We do that for all our tanks.(I work for a tank manufacturer)

I think that I might put in two braces, That way I can place a light on them until I get a hood built with a light in it.

I have not decided what fish I will put in it yet, want to get it cycled with some cheap fish first. Not in a big hurry and want to do it right.

This will be in my office at work, starting some remodeling at home soon and plan to sell and move. With it at work I won't have to break it down to remodel/move. Plan to have a manroom/fish room when I build on the 15 acres with fish ponds that I have dug over the years.

Thanks for the replies.
Walt

Is it an older tank? I have a six foot long by 18 wide by 24 high and it doesn't have a center brace. It has some pretty thick glass though and it has to weigh well over 200 pounds. When I went to buy a top for it the lfs told me the open top design went out a long time ago when they figured out they could use bracing and thinner glass.
