ok, i know, that the texas is a brackish tolerant fish, and chromides are brackish, but upon reading an old marine manual, i read that cichlasoma uropthalmus (mayan cichlid) can live and breed under brackish or marine conditions, any one know anything further on this? :feedback:

i know this doesn't answer your question, but I've seen Mayans and unidentified Tilapia species in brackish habitats in south Florida, and I wouldn't be surprised if they breed in it too.

I always thought that was kinda weird... ciclihds in brackish or salt. I know G. brasiliensis can handle brackish. Vieja maculicauda can aswell.

Neale Monks in the 'Brackish FAQ' also lists kribs as cichlids that can live in low-end brackish conditions.

never heard of a brackish Texas uropthalmus are thick in Belize in full salt

tilapia have been bred in saltwater. and brackish and fresh ov course
