Hello there, ive been into aquariums for quite a long time now but have never ventured to the brackish side so i could use all the help i can get. At the moment i have a 280litre tank(freshwater) that i was hoping to convert to brackish gradually by replacing 1/3of the water with seawater. I was cycling this tank with 5fancy guppies when i got a 'freshwater' moray eel last week, i havent seen the eel eat anything all week and he doesnt bother even chasing the guppies yet every cube of bloodworms i throw in dissapears, just not sure if its him or the guppies cos he doesnt even react to food when im looking. Anyways i was wonder what could i keep in this tank(230ltr is 50gal i think). I was thinking of maybe a ngt dat but im not sure how much they cost :/ What about a school of monos and 2 scats or would that be too much?

Hi there

Before you consider adding any more fish, sort out that eel. These so-called 'freshwater morays are really brackish, as you know, but they need medium to high-end brackish to do well at all. If the salinity is too low for their liking, they won't eat at all. Slowly increase the SG every week until it starts taking food.

Also, feeder fish and bloodworms aren't the ideal diet for these fish. Rather try and use sardine meat, bait squid etc. They prefer to eat this (mine go absolutely mad for it).

Cheers
