I have read in a lot of different places that you can use aquarium or marine salt in a bw setup. Other places have said to use only marine.
The easiest thing to get my hands on at the time of starting my puffer tank was API aquarium salt.
The fish has been doing fine in this salt for several months now.
He is 2.5" and a SG of 1.005
Is there a big difference and should I switch to marine salt?

I know someone knows the answer to this simple question.

Go with marine. It has a more varied set of minerals and more closely approximates real brackish water, which can only be good for your fish (I would think). In any case, don't bother buying aquarium salt, it's just repackaged and overpriced table salt.

Thought there might be something better about marine. I guess it would be ok to add it to my tank with the other kind of salt when it is time to increase to meet his needs as he grows? Thank you for the info.

I changed my avatar.

I would have thought it was pretty simple really. Brackish = mixture of fresh and marine salt water, therefore marine salt should be used.
Also wtf is with bumping your thread twice within an hour...

Absolutely correct. You must use marine salt to make brackish water. Aquarium salt has none of the minerals necessary to keep a BW fis healthy long-term. Since these fish can live into their teens, a few months in aquarium salt is no test.

 Thank Pufferpunk, I knew you where out there some where.
Your like a Super Hero on Puffer info. Thanks
