Hi
I have a Green Spotted puffer that i know needs snails, so i got some of those little ones that multiply like crazy for free from a petstore but i think they just died in my brackish tank and i didnt see the fuffers eat many so im just wondering if there are any cheap brackish snails or somthing hardshelled i can feed them?

Thanks in advanced guys

Anybody? I dont want its beak to get over grown so i need some ideas. There has to be a simple solution seeing as they are brackish fish so anyone else with one has the same circumstance

I'm trying to think. Perhaps buying small redclaw crabs, but that would stink seeing they are like at least 2 bucks each and cool little critters.

I don't think there are any snails (that aren't marine) that live in brackish water. Perhaps trying to find cheap marine snails and slowly converting them to a low salinity?

I think that would work best.

I have no idea. Sorry mate.

Great info on feeding your puffer:

i read the article on breeding snails but i didnt see anything about their ability to survive in brackish. I just dont want to add roting dead snails to my tank

Did you read the info on other foods for your puffer? I have never bred snails for any of my puffers. If you do give them snails, they shoud eat them right away, otherwise you can try crushing them for the puffers to eat. They'll still get the "crunch' factor for their teeth.

I think nerite snails (sp) will adapt to brackish, however - again like Pufferpunk said don't drop 20 snails in at a time, drop them individually when the puffer is hungry.

Just watching them fall will be enough to get them to eat them. Keep dropping them if he eats them, but do it one at a time.

nerites can be kept in full salt. they need that to hatch there eggs.

Nerite & turebo snail's shells are too hard for a puffer's teeth & can cause them to break off. I'd stick with more natural crunchy foods, ikstd in that link.
