Ok well i have a new 40gal tall and i have a 20 gallon standard tank. In the 20 gallon i have two Green Spotted puffers and I am pretty sure that is all i am going to be able to put in there period. But in my 40 gallon i have two Green Scats(weren't originally planning on haveing them in there originally put them in with the puffers that turned out bad Puffers attacking scats, Scats attacking puffers, it was a warzon...guess i will have to buy another tank to do cichlids in). I kind of want to know what i can put in there for them as tankmates, I know the Scats will deffinetly need a bigger tank eventually and I will upgrade when needed. I am running the tank at about at about 1.012. I was thinking a pair of Knight Gobys and maybe a pair of monos or some sailfin mollies would like some input thanks. Ohh and on a side note can i feed scats live food?

Hey there

You're right about the puffers, probably won't be able to add them to any tank without risk unless you get a really large tank, where your other fish can avoid them.

If you're getting an upgrade soon, go for the Mono. They'll shoal with the Scats and they make a good combo. Just remember that they like to have lots of room, as well as have some company of their own kind.

The gobies and mollies will stay small compared to your scats - this might be a problem long term. Sailfin mollies get pretty big though so I don't see any major problems there. No matter what you get, your LFS will probably stock these species as freshwater, so acclimatize them slowly (by drip preferably) over a long time so that they don't die from the salinity difference.

A g tile would be a good addition in th 40g along with the scats. Monos are great as well with scats but the 40g is to small.

gynothorax tile

freshwater moray/snowflake eel

unfortunately mono should be keep in more than two or three otherwise they will kill the weaker if you just keep two monos.

A freshwater stonefish would be hardy enough to go with them and they are not expensive and very cool

IMO you're going to need a larger tank for the 2 puffers. growing to 6-7" each and as highly aggressive as they become, I'd be surprised if they get along ok as they continue to grow. Even one, imo would need larger than a 20 gallon as an adult. Just food for thought. :)

30g ea for the puffers at adult size. 50g for each scat & 40g for each mono with a minimum of 3 for them to be comfortable.
