Hi guys

Trying to set up a brackish tank specifically intended for mudskippers

Issue is I am getting a reading of 8.8 for ph - which is a bit too high for my liking

current sg 1.008

Question 1: should i be using a freshwater test kit rather than my saltwater test kit at this sg level

I have always used the same test kit for my marine tank sg 1.020 and it records a constant ph of 7.8-8.0

Theres is ammonia at 1.0, Nitrite 0

Using tap water not RO water with artificial powder marine salt

Question 2: If anyone knows can mudskippers live at 8.8 ph? Understand Ammonia needs to go to 0

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Mudskippers do well in water with a pH of 7.0 - 8.5. It should be very easy to lower the pH from 8.8 to 8.5.

As far as salt is concerned, it is neutral in pH, so either test kit should give you the same result in brackish water.

I think pH isnt as huge a concern as you may think. Consistency is the key. That mudskipper will do better at 8.8 than having it shift all around as a result of you constantly trying to shift it.
