I went into the pet store today and bought a fish off the employees info. I was wrong I should have looked into a fish before I bought it. I bought a dragon fish. I have a 125 gallon tank with 1 Oscar 2 jack Dempsey 1 concivt and 1 pleco. the problem is I found out the dragon fish needs brackish water. and I don't have that. what should I do. should I bring it back to the store. or can the fish I have live with salt in the tank. I don't want to hurt any fish. I am in a stand still. if anybody can help me thanks

They should allow you to return the fish since they described it's requirements incorrectly. The jd's can handle brackish but nothing else you have will. I'd just take it back.

Sent from my mind to my fingers to my phone to the MFK servers to you

Agreed. Plecos especially can't handle brackish. Much easier to return the fish. If you like the look of the dragon goby you could get a bichir, they are freshwater.

I assume the dragon fish you are talking about is Gobioides broussonnetii , (dragon goby or violet goby), it is a brackish water fish but i have kept them in freshwater, i have one right now in freshwater and it is thriving and doing just fine. I have also seen pics in the past of someone that had a full grown dragon goby that had grown it from a juvi in freshwater with not ill effects. In the pic the dragon goby was housed with blood parrots. To me the dragon goby is a very adaptable fish. I know alot of people will dissagree with me about only keeping brackish fish in brackish water, but like i said above when there is a full grown dragon goby living and thriving in freshwater housed with cichlids that should tell you that it isnt a neccessity for these fish. Only thing i would worry about in your situation would be your cichlids picking on the dg.
