Hi guys great to be here,I was wondering if using branches from the wild were safe for aquarium use.I'm setting up a 125 g with a group of Geos and varius other fish.I;m looking for that branchy root look and have various trees in the backyard that are bare and woud look fantastic in a tank.Would the branches need to be treated?,would they just rot?.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've used limbs and branches from trees in my yard for years. All I do is give them a really good scrubbing with water. Then I boil a big pot of water and put the branches in the pot if their small enough. If not I just pour boiling water over them to kill off anything that may be living on the wood. Never had any problems doing it this way but maybe someone has a better idea.

Thanks evojoey, yeah I'm kinda scared what kind of critters I'd introduce to the tank, did you peel the bark?
