Hello everyone my 1st post so here it goes...

about 6 yrs ago i had a 20gal and some african cichlids, really enjoyed them but got out of the fish keeping hobby.. Now ive been lurking around and want a H. Vittatus! I have a 40 gal. breeder at the moment (36x18x16) could this tank house a juvinille for some time?? Also I really like the P. Delhezi Bichir, and wondered if that could go in that tank for a short period as well. (6mo-1yr) before I graduate to a larger tank. I have tons of q's a newbie for sure. A pm from anyone wanting to share info and humor me would be very very appreciated.

A 40g breeder is wide but not very long. These fish are very active and require a lot of swimming space. You could possibly keep a very small juvi in there for a few months but would need to upgrade to at least a 125 in a few months. I've seen H. Vittatus with Bichir species before and would not expect a problem but these fish can be very unpredictable in some cases. I've never kept any of the Hydrocynus species since they are illegal where I live but have gotten lots of information from hearing experiences from other people. I suggest you wait for some of the ATF experts to chime in before making the final decision.
