I have 2 tiger oscars that are very young. I have feed them freeze dried krill(the krill is too messy....) and they have always been fed that. I want to break them to pellets. The pellets are a pond pellet for goldfish and koi(i want too because there are alot around here). And i was wonderin first off if it was a good idea or not. I tried it once they put it in there mouth then spit it out... What r ur opinions or ideas.

My O refuses to eat pellets.
He's one year old and was reased on ciclid sticks and bloodworms.
He eventually refused the stick and only eats mealworms , all other worms and bugs.
Soaking the pellets in some garlic juice could trigger them into eating.
I wouldn't advice koi pellets as a staple food, for ciclid food is a little different.
I feed the ciclid pellets to the mealworms prior to feeding them to my O, just for the addition nutricional value.

Btw Fishy12, i totally aggree with your signature.:D
You got your priorities straight, bro!:headbang2

Well, I wouldn't use goldfish/koi pellets. I'd use cichlid pellets of some sort. My oscar mainly eats Hikari with krill as a supplement. Just keep offering them pellets without any other option (although if they don't eat them after like a half hour or so, throw them away and try again later). They'll get hungry enough to actually eat them and eventually learn that they are food.

I've got the same problem with my oldest O, i just cram hikari pellets inside pieces of tiger prawns, @ least that way he gets what he needs, that and i feed fish flakes and hikari to crickets, then chuck em in!

Get them on pellets ASAP, it's healthier, easier and cheaper on so many levels. Just stop all feeding for a week, than put the pellets in. Don't give in, they are like kids, if you just keep giving them what they want, they get spoiled.

Kk thnx for input they did eat all of them but ill try to find some chiclid pellets guys thanks for input. And is it easy to breed meal worms? because i can buy 12 of them for 1.50 at a bait shop then i cld sstart breeding them and use them to feed.

Man you might wanna give them Meal worms as a treat every month or so, you dont want them on those mugs trust me it will just enhance there stubbornness plus they cant digest the shells of them so it pollutes the water twice as fast mate, meal worms are the reason why my oscar dont eat pellets directly!
