What a surprise today, tons of convict fry swimming around in my little tank. Heres some pictures i took. For some reason I am proud of this even though I played hardly any part in it, is that wrong? Either way my plan was to try and keep a population of these convicts that can self sustain in my big tank. A full circle sort of thing. Does anyone know when I should remove them from their parents? Or have any pointers I should know about? It may be a long shot but I guess im giving it a whirl.

Thanks for the tip Nabbig, will do. And Bodydub I bought a male and a female with the intention of them breeding a while ago, it wasn't really accidental. Never really did anything to help it along, just kept them like any other fish. They were always acting like they were breeding but nothing ever came of it. I just thought they were too small. I guess not, seems like they got it all figured out. Now hopefully enough fry can survive in my 220 long enough to reproduce again, and maybe provide a constant food source for my big guys. This could go wrong in so many different ways, so if anyone has any ideas they are more than welcome to tell me, I think I need the help.

If you throw those fry in your big tank they will be gone quick. Let them grow a bit. Once they are decent size then you can put them in the big tank. But still dont count on them surviving. Since you havent said whats in the big tank I dont know how big you would have to let them get to survive.

Nothing too evil. 1 Oscar, 1 Dempsey, 1 Paroon, and one Id shark. The Oscars around 12in., Dempsey 10in., Paroon 10ish, Id 6-7in. Since it's in the 220 the fry have a lot of space to hide. Besides, as of yet they are so small I don't think any of the fish would waste their time going after them. I had about 5 rosies that lived for a month or so just hiding around the driftwood. I actually heard the opposite when I originally thought of this. People were saying the Cons would take over the tank, to the point where I am still nervous about it. Im starting to think that if this balances out it will be a miracle. I haven't done anything yet and am still weighing my options.

I just set up my 55 in the basement to help accommodate the new herd of convicts until I can figure out what to do with them. I'm not running a convict motel though, make me money or your out. This was cool, then it got stupid.

I've been mashing the flakes up but on the ones I missed I've noticed the same thing. Good child care for what it's worth. I have noticed the parents fighting a bit, but with 200 kids I can't blame them. They can drive you nuts sometimes. They also are trying to flex at me when I get close to the tank. They really get fearless.
