Here is my pair of Escondido Carpintis cichlids I got with a Craigslist tank. They are paired up and from what I can tell, are good quality. I recently took them from my 125 into a 75 gallon. Any advice on breeding/raising fry? They’re paired up and have already dug to the bottom of the tank. The tank has tons of rock with a cave. So far my plan is to do is do a 50 percent water change and raise the temp to around 81 degrees.

You don't need any advice you already know how to trigger the pair to spawn.:)

Thanks. Just wanted to confirm because I’ve never bred cichlids before. Also, any idea what to do with the fry once when I raise them?

Check your local Petco stores, the ones near me buy fry. Also can check your local fish stores, see if they will. Can sell them on Craigslist. Can post here as well. Check your local fish stores, they may be able to ship them for you.

If all else fails you can feed the fry to other fish if you have any before the fry gets bigger than 1/2inch in size. After 1/2in the dorsal fins become an issue to your big fish's mouth.

Great looking pair by the way. I am growing out a batch of Carpintis fry atm trying to get to where you are now. Keep us posted on how things turn out.

I have had carpintus spawn a number of times in my tanks.
I did not however raise the temp, but just the opposite.
I added a tad cooler rain water when doing large water changes, to mimic the cool spring rains, and mountain runoff in northern Mexico (where they are endemic).
Beside raising artemia and daphnia as first foods, I let as much algae as possible grow in the tank to provide constant grazing. The tank got partial sun, which made growing algae easy). Carpintus are omnivores with a tendency to consume lots of algae even as adults, as opposed to being piscivores, or heavy carnivores. I also used NLS Algaemax pellets because of the high spiraling content.

They were great parents , so I didn't start removing fry until they were around an inch, and then attempted to get the largest juvies out, because they would often try to kill their smaller brethren.
