I have now started to gain an interest in African cichlids. Right now i have a 55 gallon tank that i'm trying to pair up to breed. I have a rack that consist of 5 and 10 gallon tanks to grow fry. I know i have a lot but there small and I'm trying to pair them off before i cut my stock down.

12 Yellow Labs
8 Scarlet Kribs
6 (Don't remember name) Light blue with black stripes and are common in pet stores ( Not Frontosas ) Malwawi Cichlid

Any advice will be helpful i was currently a IFGA Guppy Breeder before this so i have experience with growing fry and keeping up with feeding and water quality.

Here are some pics

With africans (specifically mbuna) you usually want to try for a ratio of 1M:3F in a community tank (even better to have 2M:6F). This not only curbs aggression because the males aren't "picking" on just one female, but also keeps more fish to confuse the dominant male that will inevitably like to chase less dominant fish. If you are not planning on keeping them in a community tank, but instead species tanks then I think 1:3 is just fine. That will also help if you need to remove a female for any reason (if you remove her while holding or if she gets injured).

Good luck!!!

Kenyi is going to be a little too aggressive in a tank < 75-100 gallons. Other than that, pile rocks high and as they mature, fries happen almost automatically.

the male Kenyi (Lombardois) turn yellow when they mature...

The yellow labs should all have black in thier fins, if some don't have the black it can mean they are hybrids and not pure Yellow Labs...

Take out the Kribs and put a third Malawi species in there... may be a few auratus...
