I've got two flowerhorns currently seperated in a tank and I'm hoping that one's female and one's male. They've got a little ways to go considering there still somewhat young. My question is can you generally tell if one will be too agressive towards the other one when the divider is up or will this fade? The larger of the two wants to go right after the smaller one as soon as it sees it through the divider and this has me concerned :nilly: Just give it time? Anyone have personal experience with similar situations.

How big are they? Sounds like if you're sure you have male/female just what you're seeing is immaturity. In that when they're mature, if they're ready to breed they won't be as aggressive towards each other. Male will always be a little aggressive through the divider though. But then when her tube drops he should be more into breeding then beating her up.

Flowerhorns always know their pecking order from my experience with them. There is always a super aggressive one and a super dismissive one. If you do have a pair you're in luck.. If you have 2 males you might come home to a floater one day.

Ones about 3 inches and the other is only 2. You are right, I do have a super aggresive one and a super dismissive one. I'm pretty sure one is female (agressive). However, the other (passive) is too young/small to be sure at this point.
