Intro
There is much debate over the breeding of angel fish these days, many people have many different ways of doing it and most are successful.

To start off you can either buy a proven breeding pair(Which can be very very expensive) or buy 8-10 baby angels and grow them to a sexually mature size.(What I do.) House the babies in a fifty gallon tank, they need the space and have a good mechanical filter running all the time. Keep the temp at about 80* F. The ph should be about 7.0-7.3.
Feed the young a variety of foods, flakes bloodworms etc. This is good to condition them.
Once they are about 1.5 inches in diameter, the bodies they will start of be getting of breedable size. Place 2-3 slates which are 10 inches long and about 5 inches wide into the tank. This will be for the pairs to lay eggs on. Once they get a little bigger the females of the group taht you haev will become gravid. (Now they are sexually mature.) Soon after this you will see the angels pairing off. This is very simple to see if you haev the right eye. 2 of the angels will begin to sparate themselves from the rest of the "Pack" and ward off any other angels from their terrotory. This is your soon to be pair. The female will soon be very interested in one of the slates in the tank. She will be attrached to it. Soon she will begin to peck or bite at the slate(Cleaning it) soon the mael will begin to clean the slate too. They will do this for 2-3 days until the fema le thinks the slate is clean enough to lay eggs on. Please note, at this point all other compettion will be taken away from the area. It may be a wise chose to divide the tank so the pair can have their own space. Soon when the angels are ready they female will begin to swim with her head up. up the slate. She will rub up against the slate with her stomach. She will mek sevral of these passes and on the 2nd or 3rd will lay a row of opaque little eggs. The male will pass over and fertilize them. This egg laying will go on for up to 2 hours. After the pair is done you haev 2 choices. First is to let the pair tend to the eggs themseleves. Which I reccomend for the First few spawns, although they may eat the eggs. If they do go and eat the eggs you can artifically hatch the eggs. This is done as so. Before the spawn actually happens set up a 5-10 gallon tank with a sponge filter and a heater, BARE bottem is best. set the temp to 80* F. When the pair is done laying the eggs block them off with a net and take the slate out with the eggs and place it in the 5 gallon leaning on one of the wall. Have a air stone you can put up so the bubbles hit the eggs(oxygenation) After 24-48 hours the eggs will begin to wiggle and the baby angels will apear. DO NOT FEED THEM. Wait until they are free swimming, off the slate to feed them. Feed 4-5 times per day on Baby Brine Shrimp. Make sure the Food is either live or melted frozen. Feed them until they are big enough to accept Daphnia and then eventually crushed flakes. These angels will grow fast make sure to get them into a bigger tank when they are big enough to not stress out and die.

This si just a breif summery

hope you guys enjoy;)

Thanks allot !! I have read a few things elsewhere with questions about thsi topic :) And now I have a thread to link them to and also set the bait for the next MFK member:ROFL:

I was also working on this but had a swing and the only fish that died were the Angels :(

Nice direction thantks again :)

Few comments to make:

Keep breeding angels away from just about every other fish, including small plecs.

Watch for aggression between the male and the female, although a pair, they can become aggressive towards each other, and the female will kill the male more often the the inverse. Be ready to seperate the two of them.

When hatching the young yourself, meds are good, especially anti-fungals such as methelene blue, and protoacides like acriflavin can be used, or marcyn 2.

Soft water is very necessary for proper growth of the fry.

Power filters are bad.

Substrate is a HUGE no-no. The parents will lose track of the fry, and you will miss many, and may suck them up with water changes.

Water changes are needed daily.

To help induce breeding, water changes, warmer temps (82-84 F), adding minor amounts of salt 1 tbsp/10 gallons, seperation, and mixing pairs are all things that can trigger breeding.

i like da advice helps to know how to keep the babies alive instead of dead lol

u ever even get babies that-----

ur jacked dempsey is gone??????????????? wtf is up with u???

I strongly want to point out not to artifically hatch fish. When you do this you are breeding out their instinct to raise their own fry. That is just my 2 cents. When my angels raised their own fry, it was very fasinating to watch them care for their fry.
