well..males beat the heck out of each other..females beat the heck out of each other.when theres a male and female at one end of the tank and all the others are cowering in the top corner of the tank at the opposite end, you have a pair.
in my case, I have 2 breeding pairs in one tank and they will beat the heck out of each other every couple weeks then lay their eggs.
