hi guys
can a mono hybrid ( farmie) breed when they are only about 20 cms (8")?...

two of mine has been acting strangely, they coloured up like i never seen before, they chase all of their tankmates, and they forcibly took over my breeding jags nesting slate ( the jags just used it a few days prior), the male has a massive KOK lol, waay bigger than my flowerhorns KOK, and both of them has been flashing to each other and what it seem like slate cleaning exercise.

and oh the female also starting to develop lump on her head aswell.

is this even possible????:confused::confused::confused:

please help... i will try to get a pic or two this arvo.

Yes all the signs are there but I think that P's wont sexually mature until at least two years of age. But practice makes perfect. But get use to the dominant actions and keep an eye on the situation becase it sounds like they have claimed there terroritory.

post a pic.
never heard of them breeding that young.
maybe farmies can?
who knows.
if they do spawn,thats great!

It definately sounds like breeding signs! Post up pics or even better a video.. Hopefully you do have a spawning pair :)

hi guys
check them out, it's frustrating trying to get a decent pic, the moment i come near the glass, they are all wanting to be fed, plus the blasted camera just take soo long to take pic, by the time it took pic, most of the fish have moved on that's why it mostly blurry
and finally, please ignore the algae ( i only have a max of 2 days of clear glass between water changes).

I definitely believe farmies can breed at 8-10" where wild caught would take a bit longer. I'm sure with farmies they are induced w/hormones to speed up the cycle of breeding in farms and sure babies are affected in one form or another.

I had a pair of farmie monos that a member had picked up from me and when they were about 10" they mated and had babies :naughty:

thought that also, but what i meant by farmie is they were tank bred, i know the guy who bred them in tank. the parents were huge, i don't think that he used hormones.
