While waiting to see if any of my JD cichlids take a liking to one another I decided I would try to breed bettas. I have a male and a female that are seperated. From what I understand I should feed them a good bit for two weeks, put the male in the breeder tank for a couple days then the female in a jar floating in the breeder tank. After a couple days let the female go once the bubble nest is build and see how things go. Anything else I should do in the meantime. I've been feeding them a good bit for the last 4 days so not to the breeding tank part yet.

When I breed some bettas the male had a massive bubble nest after 1 night of seeing the female. Then I just introduced the female and bang! Magic started. But the male was in a 10 gallon alone so the female had enough room to run around and hide if anything where to happen.

Yeah, condition the pair with blackworms or bloodworms and the female will get full of eggs, be sure to use shallow water, 6" is about right, and have a bare bottom tank with plants in the corner away from the nest for the female to escape into. The harder part is raising the fry as they are tiny. You need to keep the tank tightly covered for their first 3 weeks or so in order to prevent any cold drafts from flowing in and messing up their developing labyrinth organs. Good luck man!
