how do you breed bettas? and can it be done in a 10 gallon.

Your two bettas will be fine. In the meantime feed them both (Particualry the female) and high protien worm diet.

Set up a 10G tank with a filter, but when you introduce the 2 betta's, turn it off and do daily 15% water changes. Or 10%. Whatever.

Next, have some floating plants and or a styrofoam cup cut down the middle and placed onto the water. This will help stabalize the males bubble next.

Now add some caves, crevices and hidey holes for the female if the male gets too aggressive. DO NOT have any gravel or sand, just bare bottom.
Ok, so by now you have the pair conditioned with worms and you place them in the 10G.
Continue feeding them this way and soon your male should start displaying his fins to your female. Whens she's ready to breed you'll notice a small white knobby thing protuding from her anus. She should also have vertical bars. You want to look for bars not stripes.

By now the male should have a bubble nest and then when they do the deed, he will wrap himself around her to elp expel the eggs. They should float because of a tiny amount of oil in each egg. Some may sink, but the male will pick them up in his mouth and spit them into the bubble nest. It is essential that you remove the female as she will most likely be sent to her grave by the male.

Keep feeding the male during this time and when the eggs hatch, remove him. feed only the smallest infusoria and green water to feed the fry. After 2 weeks or so, move onto daphina/cyclops/baby brine shrimp for them. Give the fry 4-6 SMALL feedings per day.

Remove any waste from the bottom of the tank.

who do you sell them to? i dont think lfs will take in bettas

Find local buyers? If you don't have homes for all of the offspring, you may want to reconsider your decision to try to breed.
