Breeding blue and gold rams

Hey all, I'm investigating the possibility of my rams breeding in my regular aquarium--not a breeding tank. I know its better to set up the seperate tank with a sponge filter and all, but is it possible to have the fry survive in the main tank? It's a 55g with undergravel filter and a marineland penguin power filter. There are some secluded areas where the fry can be relatively contained, with less off a current.

man the first time i seen rams i fell in love with them. do you any pictures of yours would love to see them.
