hi i'm trying to breed blue gene jd's. does anyone have advice????

What advice are you looking?

For starters..
You need good filtration and flat rocks..
A male EBJD and a female Jack Dempsey
Flat Rocks!!!
A separator, mainly for the parents.. They will begin to "fight" before and after the breeding process (sometimes ending in death) so you need some way to separate them. Sometimes they can eat their young if they are new to parenting..
You may have to buy several females for the male to pair off.. They wont just mate with any girl off the street.
Look for really nice patterns and quality fish...

Please elaborate on your question for me to give a better answer

I have a batch of Blue Gene fry right now about 2 months old, a little more. It's my mated pairs 3rd successful clutch

Yeah I've had my pair for about 7 months now and all they do is fight and booty shake ceremony. I have a flat rock in front of their cavepot too. My brother said just let them be cuz you'll get frys when you least suspect it. Oh well, another 7 more months maybe. Both are 8"

Get them there own tank.. a 55 would be fine... IMO there are too many substantial threats/predators in with them... I like the stock but if you want them to breed try to separate them from the rest....

That male looks like something beat the hell out of it.

Definitely, I got them both from Mainly Cichlids for only $15. His right fin has not grown back but his tail is almost done. I think they were in with something much bigger and nastier.

I agree

What would trigger them to breed, What temp. to keep them at, should i seperate the fry, Will the parents beat up eachother, how much fry will they produce, and how much of the fry would be EBJD's

All my tanks are around 80F... cant push nature to reproduce as far as I know... not always necessarry to separate the fry.. The parents could fight depends on the pair... the number of fry can vary greatly especially with new parents... None of the fry would be ebjd... You would then have to breed a female blue gene (your batch) with a seperate male ebjd (not your batch) and the percentage is only like 25% of those fry would be ebjd. next time I would suggest a little research before asking the question(s) IMO

If this person has a male and female Blue Gene JD,and it does say 1 pair of Blue Gene JDs in a 55 gallon tank and they breed, then it will produce EBJDs.(unless I'm missing what the original post is asking)Dont know the exact percentage of EBs it will procuce though. Some breeders think this way will actually give you a better quality EBJD.
