could i breed and grow on bristlenoses in a 20USG/60L tank?

could i do it barebottom or is a substrate nessessary as they are catfish?

can i just feed the young cucumber and other vegetables? will that grow them on fast?

Thanks
Matt

Spinach is fantastic for the babies. Your tank is fine sized. The most important thing is to give them caves. I used an ornamental castle turned over and got many breedings out of it. I also had to sea shells glued together with a 1" hole in it that I had them breed inside. They are not picky.

Thanks

do bristlenoses need any meat in their diet? could this be supplied in pellet form?

Do you have any pictures of your sea shell idea you could post please? I was going to cut a terracota plant pot in half and silicone it to a sheet of glass. then lean the glass against the side of teh aquarium so i could see inside. would this work? i have read that they like caves with a narrow entrance and a wide inside, is this true? i would only have a pair of bristlenoses in there so security would not be a major issue. Could i breed them in a bare bottomed tank?

Thanks-sorry for all the questions!
Matt

go into the forum you want and select the "new thread" button in the top left hand corner, just above the existing threads

Hope that helps

I've been told that Bristlenose will go for blood worms. I have a customer that breeds Albino long fish bushy nose plecos and he tells me he just feeds them blood worms, veggies, and ignores them. May not want to be the best way, I would at least change the water every once in a while.

i breed albinos, orangespot, marbles & ( pepermint L183 starlight plec) bristlenose & all i use is a 2ft by 2ft by 1 1/2 for each trio (1m 2f ) keep the temp about 26 deg a good filter & plenty of food like algae waffers , zucchini & when you want to fatten them up for breeding you can use blood worms when you think they are ready do a water change about 30 per the flower pot idea is exellent it works well as i use them & when you get fry feed them heaps as most deaths are from not enough food & a small water change of about 10 per every 2nd day & you will have more fish than you can poke a stick at. Hope this helps you .

Thanks for all the help guys, especially Flash L204.

do bristlenoses like a flow? would too strong a flow suck the fry up?

Thanks
Matt

a 20l is fine for bristlenose. most people would say a sponge filter but ive always bred with a regular hob filter and this as worked fine. Bristlenose arent picky about breeign sights. They wil breed anywhere from clay pots, to caves, to pvc, to really anything . Anything that is dark and small fit for the pair wil do fine. Mine have bred in a clay pot that was turned around for "privacy" i guess. They did fine. And from my experience they do like meaty diets, and i would say for breeding it encourages spawning.

what is the best food for feeding young besides cucumber and spinach?

i like to give a varied diet
