Hi! i have a 160 liters aquarium, and i would like to try to breed channa sp assam. How much fishes should i get? i'm thinking in getting a group of 5... is a good number?

I have had assam spawn. I started with 9 fish, they made 3 pairs and 2 of the pairs spawned. I would think 9 would be minimum. I tried to get pairs out of 6 assams and I didn't get pairs. When I was breeding gachuas I would get better pairs and more pairs if the group was larger, 9-20 fish. I have also bread rainbows I started with 15 fish they made 3 pairs and only one pair ever spawned.

I always had caves when I was breeding dwarf channa, usually 2 caves not much in the way of plants, except with the rainbows.
Also I kept them about 78-80 degrees and would do water changes with cooler water maybe 70 degrees.
I want to get another substrate to my aquarium, and i like black sand... is it easy to clean? is it good for the channas?
