i just got 4 blue pearl cherax destructors ranging from 2.5 to 3 inches long. i was supposed to get 2 pairs sexed but i suspect i have 3 females. i can't sex the females for some reason i never can spot the telltale markings on the legs until they are 3.5-4 inches at least, but the largest has much larger claws compared to the other 3 which in my experience indicates male.
it is ok if the male lives to breeding age. i can breed him to 1 female then breed 2 of her male offspring to the other 2 females. if he dies before i can breed him i am stuck.
anyone have any info on how big i should let them get before trying breeding?
right now i have each of them in their own 10 gallon. i plan to keep it that way. i was thinking of using a 30 to grow the babies in or perhaps a few of those very large rubbermaid containers.
does anyone have any experience breeding crayfish on a small scale (2-3 pairs) ? i'm not trying to make huge money i just love this type of crayfish so much and had so much trouble finding them i decided to try my hand at breeding them. any tips or info on setups would be appreciated.
