Im very interested in breeding clownfish and I found a nice pair of ORA Platinum Percula Clownfish so I have a few questions.

1. Can I breed them in my 29g Biocube or should I use my 75g? They will be the only fish in the tank.

2. How much do Platinum Percula Clownfish babies go for? What would be a reasonable price to charge for them? I might keep a few just incase the parents get into a fight but Id also like to sell a few for money for tank supplies and such.

3. How long does it usually take Clownfish to breed once you add them to your tank? and how often after that will they breed?

4. How many eggs do they usually have per batch?

Feedback much appreciated

Clownfish are actually really simple to breed. I had a pair of per back than. The female is bigger then the male (unlike fresh water fishes oddly) they lay tons of eggs like literally. I would have my live rock covered in them every 2 weeks, hatch rate was really high for me like 97%, only downside is you HAVE to hatch FRESH BBS EVERYDAY. Which is a pain. lol price wise, idk xD

baby brine shrimp...i was doing a thread on this topic a while back. the tuff part is during the molt. you will lose alot. if you have a few clowns it will go better for the long run as they will get the higher arcy and then as you female dies the breeding male will change into the breeding female and the next male will become the breeding male and so on. all are males when they are born and change to female as they become the dominate fish.

Well if you plan on keeping the young with parents deffinetly the 75gal. And if not then yea you could breed two clownfish in a 29gal and move there fry.

Well if you sell to a local fish store expect half price if they pay cash if not then you'll get store credit. As for how much you can bargain but if you get half of what you pay for adults I would be happy. Even if you sold 4-5 for half adult price its still good.

I would assume they would need to get settled that would take probably 3-4 weeks. And unless you purchase a already mated pair then who knows they may not even pair up.

4. How many eggs do they usually have per batch?
Well as for this I don't know all depends on fish and the care you take for their eggs and raising of the fry

Feedback much appreciated

thank you, it is already a proven pair, I wouldnt pay $400 just to take a small chance they might pair up:D

Pairing clownfish is easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

That being said, expect a terrible price from the LFS.

OR

Expect a decent price and for them to only take a couple.

They also arent going to want them at a size smaller than they can sell them.

You will need to put in a lot of time energy and food to get them to this point, there is also tank space.

With that in consideration, I would say you could probably breed them in a 29g. 75g is overkill...40 is about right.
