Just wondering if any MFKers have had success breeding these guys and had any tips/tricks to share. I've been reading around on google but all the suggestions seem pretty generic and there's very little first hand experience out there.
2 years... so far the most i got was a gravid female who in the end wound up egg bound and died... however i did just pick up 13 more (3.5 to 1 m/f) so we will see how this goes.. ive been getting a lot more sparing now that the rain has started so wo knows..
thanks for the info. I didn't get these guys with the intention of breeding them, but once they got some size on them the biggest male started "dancing" with the females at the base of a piece of driftwood. Just got my wheels turning and made me want to learn more. Good luck with your group!
hi, i was just looking at my congos and i noticed they were having breeding behavior...i quickly put them in my little breeding cage and now have about 50-100 eggs in the bottom part... ill try to get pics up if the eggs hatch
Congrats! I've gotten eggs a couple twice now, but they're always eaten before I can do anything. When I move next month I'm contemplating setting up a dedicating breeding tank and giving it a shot. Let us know what happens with your batch
BTW, If you end up with fry I'll take some - I can't find female Congos anywhere around here at the moment.
well, my male didnt fertilize the eggs, and the female ended up dying, but i still have two more females, so im not worried... all my smaller congos keep eating the eggs when they get layed in the tank
