So last week my cons laid eggs (not their first batch of fry) in their new 20L I setup for them. They laid the eggs in a pot but when they became wigglers the mother moved them into a hallowed out fake root system.

The mother can't swim everywhere in the root system and I think they fell down and she lost them.

There has been no show of interest or any signs that there are any wigglers left. The cons just swim around the tank and don't guard or even go in the roots.

Has anyone else had fish that loose their eggs?

My convicts have bred about 7 times so far and they have always eaten their young until this last batch. I have 4 hiding places for them in their 29gal. One of which is 1/2 of a coconut shell. She laid the eggs in one place and has since moved them to the coconut. I think the coconut keeps the fry away from the current so they are easier to manage for the parents. I also remove a segment of the intake tube from the filter when they have fry and turn the flow down to the lowest setting. I am very excited, this batch has remained far longer than any previous one. The fry hatched about 8 days ago and are really starting to move!!

Sounds like you have some fry that should make it this time. Are you going to separate the fry from the parents.

My male con and female con are back together in the tank. There was never any signs of the fry so they are gone. They are looking like they are ready to breed again....the female is fattening up.

Congrats on the fry. I usually keep the fry with the mother for 2 to 3 weeks.
The father is usually removed because after the spawning, the male will try to skin the female. It is as though he does not recognize that she is the mother to the fry. After the time out, I remove the fry to a 10g and re-insert the male to allow them to spawn again.:nilly:
