No tricks to know really. Just try to have a tank bigger than 10 gallons, substrate is immaterial, you could have other fish but they might get bullied by the parent convicts due to being in breeding mode. Try and make sure you have a place you can put or take your cons to because many places won't accept your surplus.

Breeding cons is a piece of cake, no effort really on your part as long as you have a male and a female.

for breeding cons they are best kept alone in their own tank of at least 30 gallons. I have had two pairs live fine together in a 55g (just set up ideal nest sites on either side of the tank). This is, however, pretty risky. Basically, if you have a male and a female, they will breed lol. If you want to keep more than one pair, the biggest foot print you can provide is best.

a small grain gravel works well for them because they like to dig pits for the newly hatched fry.

ya my LFS told me when i get them they will give me 3$ for little 2 inchers lol i dont know why but they always sell out of them and another LFS i got to has tanks and tank full of them that they can never sell

decent size tank.. 20 gal would be perfect for one pair. be prepared for many little ones! any substrate would work.. you dont even need a substrate if you dont want one. if you want to keep other fish than i suggest a bigger tank such as a 55g. ive breed convicts in a 55 with africans and they were fine together

I would say use the just add to water method(:
No seriuosly they breed easier than guppies and mollies for me.

No tricks at all........Put a few small-medium sized clay pots on their sides in the tank.....The fish will start breeding within two weeks........Females have orange-red blotches on their bellies.....Males can grow nuchal humps on their forehead, like RED DEVILSW..........

i agree all you need is a male and a female with some water and you got hundreds of fry. if you got a male and a female breeding them isn't hard, trying to not let them breed is. lol
