I have had several pairs of cons pop up and breed in my community tanks. I've never really tried to breed them. I came across a nice calico male and I have a beautiful female already. So I figured why not. Have them in their own tank and everything. And nothing. The female hides in a cave too small for the male and he just hangs out around or in front of it. It's a 20. Parameters ok. I figured maybe they need some dithers so I added five platys. One platy down. The rest just hanging out no more chasing from the male. What should I do to gets these two to pair up and spawn?

Just feed them you can breed them in a toilet if you wanted

danios work better as dithers...they stay smaller and school..platys will get top big with two cons in a 20g....20L would be best but even that will get to small for the pair.

but they should be fine for a while...keep up regular water changes and feed them and they will spawn. make sure there are caves for both to get away from each other..breeding can get brutal.

Thanks guys. I'm not planning on keeping them together. I want them to spawn and then I'm going to put the male back into the big tank. I grabbed the platys cause they were only 99 cents. The danios which I wanted were three dollars each. I feed them but the female won't even come out to eat. At least when I'm around.
