breeding convict pair in a community?

Well I guess it really depends on what size tank your community is in? If it is a small tank, it will probably be a bloodbath as there isn't much room for other fish to escape, as convicts tend to claim a good portion of the tank when they breed. If it's a 55 or larger, and the convicts are pretty young, I'd say you will be fine; sure they'll make any other fish's lives a living hell, but they probably won't kill them in a tank that size.

It depends on tank size and if the other fish will respect the area of tank the convicts claim.

I've successfully bred a male and a female convicts in a 55 gallon community. I had no other choice but to get rid of them because they were chasing and nipping at ALL of my other fish in my tank.
If I were to leave them in there, then it would've been a living hell for my other fish...

It can be done had a pair in a 75 gallon with an Oscar. It worked well they breed the Oscar at the young until he stopped eating them and my tank was over run with convicts.

its a 55 gallon.i only have a male right now and im discussing in another thread what fish need to get out of this tank.the convict stays though!!

Keep us posted on what happens, I just got 2 female and 4 male adult convicts to breed feeders for my tank and was wondering if I can keep them in an 80 gallon community or have to set up something for just the cons.

so im taking the pleco, two congo tetras (or whatever they are),blue gourami, and possibly the two chinese algae eaters to a lfs.
pick up a clown pleco, six glass cats to add to the three, six skirt tetras to add to those three.they dont have convicts at that lfs.
but when i find one,hmmmmm.

With an 80 gallon tank, a small community should be fine. There might be too many convicts though. You could probably successfully do just a single pair, but all the more power to ya!
