Hey guys just wandering would it be possible to breed "two" pairs of convicts in a 60 Gal tank 36Lx18Wx22H ??? Or would one pair only survive at the end lol...

Im going to be breeding these guys as feeder fish so was wondering if this would work or just go with one pair of adults. Also when it comes to breeding convicts i have heard that the female may get a little beating, so is it necessary to have a dither fish to go along with a pair? If so what would be a good type? Also i plan on just having this tank as a breeder tank and they are the only ones in there, although i was thinking of adding a type of pleco to keep the algae growth minimal...

Dont worry i do have several tanks ready to hold any size of growing babies.

If I were you I would use the 60 as a growout for the babies. You could load up all of the smaller tanks with pairs, and then grow all their offspring in the 60. I was thinking of doing the same thing with an extra 55.

I'd go with one pair. I read that 2 pairs would require a 4' x 2' tank

thats actually not a bad idea...but do you think a pair would be fine in a 20 gal tank? thats the biggest size of one my smaller spare tanks...I guess i could create an aquascaping so that even the smallest frys could survive in there along with the growing ones.

use a separator.

two pairs in a 60 gallon would be fine.

i have a question, my buddy's convicts had tons of babys and i took 4 for now 1 i believe is female because it's almost translucent i can see her insides n the other 3 are males.. now i dont want them to have aggression towards each other when they grow bigger. how many more males/females should i get to even this out. they are about half n inch long very tiny.

a 60 would be good
but a waste of space, time, and effort
if u set up 2 ten or twenty gallons for 1 pair of convicts you will be set

Sticking a divider in the tank will allow two pairs to breed.....:naughty:
