I have read up on many different guides for breeding convicts, both here and all over the web. One question I had for those out there who constantly breed convicts is when to remove the fry?

Some guides say to remove after they become free swimmers, and others say to remove the eggs after the parents lay them. I am just curious for quickest re-laying of eggs from the parents as these will be feeders and I want as many as I can get!

Another side question, I plan on using a 20g long tank for the convicts to breed and a 10g tank for the fry. Would it be safe for both parties to breed RCS (shrimp) in the 10g where the fry will be going? I will also be filling this tank with a big piece of moss for plenty of room to hide (both parties)

convicts are pretty good parents you DONT have to take the fry out..until they're .5"-1"

what i did was after they're free swimming i take them out..and clean the tank real good then put the pair back in..and in about a week and a half they'll lay eggs again

i dont know about breeding shrimp and convict fry together.

To maintain the bond between the two, I let the pair lay and gaurd the eggs untill hatching......Only then will I siphon the fry once the hatch...Once all have hatched, siphoning the wigglers into the growout guarantees a larger amount of fry survival....Although the parents are known to protect the fry, some are accidently swallowed while they are being "cleaned" or transferred to another spot........I usually place the fry into a 100g growout, but a 10g will do for the first month...Remember to always do 50% water changes everyday in the fry tank........

I leave mine in with the parents. Im overwhelmed with con, have to sell some soon. The parents are excellent at taking care of their babies.
