Breeding Convicts

hey guys I've recently gotten a pair of Convicts which have already bred once.

I've never had much experience with Cichlids since im more of a bichir fish keeper.

For the tank set up

so far,

- its a 29 gallon tank
- the two convicts are going to be the only fish in there
- blue gravel
- sponge filter with adjustable air pump pressure
- heater set to 76-77 degrees
- low light

in regards for hiding spots for the couple to breed, what do you guys use? so far, im only using a plastic cup

Clay pots are nice or slate. Convicts pretty much are the easiest cichlid to breed.. Keep them full and they'll be happy

Clay pots because they are cave spawners, the rest is fine. The are super easy to breed

+1 with the terracotta pots I use them in almost all my tanks. Some breeders Ive talked to just load there tanks with pvc pipe cut it a couple inches longer then the fish just throw a bunch of it in there. Thats if you dont care what it looks like though : P

Aye, clay pots or any sort of pot/cut/cylindrical/conish thing actually - so plastic cup is fine.

They prefer such structures, but will lay eggs on a slate/rock/etc. if that's their only choice.
