I work for a breeder, and when I do water changes, he tells me to use water that is "the same or a little WARMER" temperature. We breed a lot of cories, and I've stumbled on some websites that have advocated REDUCING the temperature to cause catfish to breed. (something to do with simulating the rain?)

Which one is correct?

The main triggers I've found to make corydoras spawn are COLDer water changes, live food (blackworms for me), and increased flow (add a powerhead). Also, soft/acidic water is good, and I also increase the gh a bit with epsom salt after a water change (seems to excite them). Near zero nitrates are also beneficial.
The CHANGE in water conditions seems to trigger it, not anything constant. I also drop the temp to about 75 for the duration of the time I'm trying to get them to spawn.

A lot of fish from SA spawn when the rainy season comes, bringing colder water from the rain and increased flow from the added water. Good luck.

BTW, if you follow my advice and get fry, (which you will if you do) I expect some free fish. ;)

Your boss is probably telling you to use slightly warmer water (if any temp change) because fish handle increases in temperature better than decreases... I wouldn't advocate cold water changes when NOT trying to get fish to spawn.
