Anyone ever tried it? We love to go fishing too so if it works we could get bait for free - I'm not about to pay over 4 bucks for a dozen at the store.

Experiences? Advice?

why not just raise ghostshrimp?

I think ghost shrimp are easier to breed than crays, ive pondered tryin to breed ghost shrimp.

For fishing purposes, I don't think ghost shrimp would be as good as crayfish. If just for feeders, I think you could breed cherry shrimp. Very easy to breed. Went from about 40 to 200-300 in 4-6 months.

40 to 300 in 6 months? thats awesome! i'm gonna start breeding those!

let me know if it works!!! i thought of it but never tried!! in fact i saw a crayfish with eggs on its backside in the store!!

can be a little hard and they don't breed as often compared to say ghost shrimp the moms and we'll all bigger crays will eat the young so be careful with that

My ornate loves crays so its not a bad idea though

i wondered about that myself, id like to keep crays but i really dont have the money since im focusing on other things, like just getting my tanks upgraded when my fish outgrow them. iv researched breeding shrimp and ghost shrimp seem to be one of the harder ones to get going. mainly because not all "ghost shrimp" are ghost shrimp. there are at least two species that look very similar and are both found together in lfs tanks labeled ghosts. one species needs brackish and eventually salt water to fully develop the larve. the freshwater breeding species can be identified by the small red bands on there front arms, the ones that turn into claws. and even then i havent heard of good success with them. so id recommend cherry shrimp. like davecheng said, they breed prolifically. good luck with that and if you have success with crays id be interested to know as my FYI.
