Got 2 breeding projects going on in a divided 130 gallon tank. Found a minor leak in the back of tank. Jags spawned 2 days ago and got lots of wigglers. Vieja and king kong parrot spawned few hours ago.

Pair of jags can go into my community tank & fry into a grow out tank. Problem is with the new spawn. I'd like to see if the vieja is capable of fertilizing the eggs by giving them a day or two...if eggs are good, I can artificially raise them in their own tank without parents.

It's late so I decided to apply pressure with C-clamps the area where it's leaking. Seems to be holding in the leak.

Will I wake up in the morning with a mess and an angry wife? She doesn't know about the leak. Fingers crossed...big time! 20151225_225322.jpg 20151225_225428.jpg 20151225_225544.jpg 20151225_225935.jpg

As soon as I see dark eyes on those eggs, they're going straight into a 10 gallon tank to hatch out...I've done it many times before. Jags' fry can be siphoned out and both pairs will go into my community tank. Then, this tank can be emptied and resealed.

Imo, I would get the tank situated first. I would much rather drain the tank and not know if my 2 cichlids will breed and not risk 130 gallons of water on the floor and an angry wife (in my case, mom) than risk it.
Good luck

So glad everything is dry...no leaks. Festaedan, I get your point but it was 11pm last night when I found out...Christmas night. I know I took a gamble. Just glad it worked out. Now, the work begins.

Picked up a new tank...now I have another dilemma. Siphoned out the jags' fry, they're doing great (still wiggling) and removed the plate of eggs from the vieja & kkp pair and eggs appear to have been fertilized but slowly going bad. You can see the dark markings of eyes on many of the eggs.

Could temperature play a role in hatching out some breeds? In the past, I usually keep the tempt at 86 degrees. I usually remove eggs from the breeding tank at the first sign I know eggs have been fertilized to avoid them being eaten. The tank eggs came from was kept at 83 degrees.
