Looking into breeding discus fish in a 150 gallon tank.
The tank will be housing Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids and Bristlenose Plecos (plecos will be removed whenever there is eggs)
How many discus can i have in the tank?
anything i should know?
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm
pH: 7.6 ppm
tank is being planted currently (waiting for plants to start growing in)

Keep temps around 80f ,they really aren't hard to breed, however if you want to make money find out what varieties people want in your area first.

lfs said that if i get them to 2-3" they will pay around $15 cause the colors arent shown good yet...

Most people keep a minimum of 6 or so, to keep one from dominating the bunch. 6 or more will allow for a pecking order to set up and generally not have the loser get killed off. I’m hearing a lot of people will run up to one discus for every 10-15 gallons.

Are you looking to sell the offspring or to just breed for the experience of it? If you are looking to sell, you should probably start with good fish. That usually means adult or near adult fish from a good source. If you google “discus forum” you’ll find at least one very busy discus message board and there’s a lot of information to be had. Get as much info as possible BEFORE you dive in and you’ll probably be ahead of the game.
