I saw something that surprised me a bit the other day. I was at Atlantis Aquatic Gardens, an lfs in Terre Haute, In., and they had a pair of Dovii with fry in a tank that I would estimate was no more than 100 gallons. The male is at least 20 inches (with great color) and has been in that tank for more than a year. The female and fry were a new addition. I was just a little surprised to see them breeding and looking quite healthy in such a relatively small tank. Most everything I've read on here suggests 200-300 gallons at a minimum, and for Dovii that size most suggest something much larger. I've never kept them, but found it interesting to see.

It's not a conventional tank. It's built into the wall with several others of a smaller size. It's at least 30 inches deep though - more of a box than a rectangle. He doesn't have a lot of room, but apparently enough, which is what surprises me. The female looked in good shape, too. I would have asked the owner about it if he was there.

wouldn't recomen it here. Personally i wouldn't put asingle Dovii in anything less than a 300, prolly looking at 500+ for a pair.
