I want to set up a 10 gallon under my fish tank to breed feeders. What type of fish are easiest to breed and what requirements would they need. Obviously would have to be a smaller fish in a 10 gallon. Thanks!

guppys or you might be able to pull of a pair of cons but you will have trouble using a single 10 gal tank , what are you feeding ?

I think that the livebearers are the easiest to breed for feeding. You might need more than one tank to accomodate the smaller sized babies to be sure that they get the food they need in order to grow, get some molly's,platy's or guppies. The lfs's in my area sell feeder guppies at 20 for one dollar and a good portion of them in the bag are already about to give birth.

It really depends on what you're feeding. If it's a small to medium sized predator, guppies would be a really cheap, easy solution. If it's a big monster, guppies might not even be noticed, let alone eaten, by the fish.

plan to keep bigger fish. right now i have 2 3" cichla and am trying to find a florida gar. so guppies probably wont last long.

Yeah something like convicts or other small cichlids would probably work. For a pair though, I would recommend something like a 20 long or 29 though, a 10 is a little small. You might also need a second tank to grow them out in until they get big enough to feed to your monsters

yea i was considering making a dual 10 gallon rack for under my tank. i just have so many extra 10's i want an excuse to use them. so considering convicts get some good size to them im not sure that is going to be big enough unless they will breed at 2-3". how many would i need to ensure a pair, etc. . .

if you eventually want to dedicate a large tank to breeding feeders, something like Tilapia or jags produce a ton of fry each spawn, and they can be used as feeders
