I'm trying to start raising my own feeders for my cichlids. I've decided to go with fathead minnows. I have a 35 gallon Rubbermaid setup with gravel, lots or rock work, bricks, PVC pipe cuttings and artificial plants to provide breeding spots. Keeping the water at room temp with neutral ph. I have a hob filter with a sponge guard to prevent any delicate fish getting sucked up. Keeping the lights going 16 he's a day. After I see this setup working out Id like to add a few more Rubbermaids to get things moving. The tank is cycled and I've added two dozen minnows.

I have not be able to find any info on how big my shoal should be for breeding, can anyone offer any assistance?

Sounds like an interesting project...can't add any advice but would like to know how well your progress goes.I would think 2 dozen should give a good mix of m and f and keep bioload normal.also with 35 gal tub, and light feedings twice a day should get them ready.
