I had a few questions for people who have had success with flower horn breeding,

What size tank for full grown spawning pair?
How do you pick out a compatible pair?
Water conditions?

I already have a red dragon female, how do I know if she'll be compatible? Should I make use of a divider of some sort?

Any help will be much appreciated, or if there is a link to an article or another thread, thanks!

Fuu\\ grown spawning pair, 75g-100g.......Water changes are a must, 50% weekly........Pairing starts with 3-5 juve\nile FH, 1-3 inches each.....Within 5-12 months, a pair will bond, and most likely breed....Water conditions:78-80 degrees, 50% weekly water changes, PH neutral.......

Where are you getting this from? 50% water change, no. 25% is more like it. You want the temp closer to 83F.
You can usually pair up any male and female. Use a divider like eggcrate that let's them see each other. Leave the divider in until the female drops her tube. You want the male to be larger than the female, as females get very aggresive during breeding. When you remove the divider you need to be there to watch the courtship to ensure neither one hurts the other too bad. There will be a good bit of lip locking and chasing. You know you have a pair that is ready to mate when the female stops swimming away from the male or you see them cleaning off a spawning area together. Usually they will also nestle together after the strength testing is over with.

with.

50% water changes is a personal thing I do......OK , maybe it is more like 30-35%....But, 50% water will not hurt the fish.....My local Discus breeder does it, and Discus are not as hardy as most of our fellow monters, but he still does it.....As far as temp goes, 83 yeah, but I have way too much success in the 78-80 degree range.........

If you want, PM me if you need some Grade 1A breeder potential...I live in San Francisco, I was one of the first on my block to receive the FH in 2000........I have very excellant breeders with large kochs.......3-6 inch starters range anywhere from $75-200.........

Good call on the Discus, I have never kept them, I do know that they are sensitive to their water conditions. I say 83 because that is what a local breeder told me, and it works for me. That's a good point you make too. There are no hard and fast rules to breeding. There are some guidelines to stay in. You as a breeder have to find what works for your water params, and your fish. Always remember like people, these fish have a personality, and they don't always get along.
