Ive been interested in stocking my pond in tropicals or exotics for human consuption.

arizona raises a huge poulation of tilapia for sale.

ive had it.
its pretty good.

In hawaii, Ive got and ate [please, try not to get offended because Ive ate one of your fish's mates, because I too have kept these fish in the past]

peacock cihlid ,oscar, and hypostomus[that was pretty disgusting]

but what do you guys think?

what kind of tropicals are big and meaty enough for humans?
and are easily enough bred?

I would say in such a small environment, that the quality could suffer. Fish are bred in a specific way that is different for food than for ornamentals. The food fish are bred for fast growth, and taste of meat, whereas ornamentals are bred for color and aesthetic characteristics.

I think itd be fairly rough to bred an raise your own fish for food, hell I feed some of my fish farm raised tilapia

Peacock Bass is already being farm raised for food consumption in South East Asia. They grow much bigger than tilapia and taste must better too. More like saltwater snapper in meat consistency, texture, and taste.

You will need some acreage though if you want to farm them. I don't think raising them at home is a viable prospect.

I agree, raising fish in a small environment will compound problems.

What do you mean big mouth? Largemouth Bass? I don't think they are worth $7 a pound personally, they aren't that great.

Fish are friends, not FOOD!

Fish caught in a lake are food, and fish sticks are definitely food, fish we keep in a tank or pond are not food, they are pets. Don't eat your pets.
