so i have this empty 5 gallon, and i want to breed some fish to feed to my other fish, and theres no more room for another tank besides this 5. i want a Super easy breeding fish, any suggesstions? what about convicts?
Guppy’s, some species of gobies like desert gobies, shell dwellers, and sparkling gouramis are the only fish I could think of that people bred in 5 gallons. Convicts are far too big for a 5 gallon.
Id go guppies or endler guppies (though any endlers i wouldnt suggest as feeders because theyre extinct in the wild and the population left is captive)
I guess some people have luck with ricefish too.
But for ease, numbers, and growth rate, guppies would be your top choice
Far too small for convicts. Those would require around a 30 gallon to attempt IMO.
Guppys or other 1-2" max fish would be your limit in a 5 gallon. Small livebearers are easy to breed and would serve your purpose.
Personally I'd either go with guppies, endlers, or platies. The best way I found to keep a steady supply of "fish food" is to make sure to keep all the females that are bred to help produce even more in the future.
