Breeding for dummies

I recently picked up a 40 gal tank and will have it up within the next few days. I bought it as a quarantine tank for my aggressive 6-7" Green terror because I'd rather keep him instead of rehoming him. Then I was wondering if I could breed him? Will it be hard to find a mate? Is 40 gal too small? Should I just pick a different fish and raise juvies and let them pair? Which fish are hard to breed? Which are easy?

convicts are the easiest to breed but who wants a bunch of convicts anyways?

I'd start with a small CA cichlid that's known to be easy to breed.
