i was wondering what fish could i breed in this 10 to feed to my oscar. i want a lot of fish, and fast. convicts? guppies? platies? i also don't know how substantial guppies would be to a full grown oscar... especially if they are baby guppies. LMK if convicts would work here, ive heard mixed results. ofc i wouldne keep a 6 incher in there, if he gets that big he is fish food. im thinking like 2 inchers.IMG_20200513_210152.jpgIMG_20200513_210152.jpg

Guppies would work, though to feed a full grown oscar you’ll need a bunch of guppies.

thats why i was thinking convicts but are they too big? i was thinking feed them to the oscar or the catfish in the pond if they get too big then raise another pair. thoughts?

I seen 1 inch convicts breed at PetSmart, so I guess it can work, but they will outgrow the 10 gallon. I don’t think constantly switching out pairs would be fun. What about making a earthworm worm bin? You can throw out stuff that worms will eat, they can breed and you can use those to feed your oscar.

well i already have a TON of worms in the backyard, if i want some, i can just flip over the log.

I think you need at least 100 gallons of guppies to feed an oscar. I have a bunch of 100-300 gallon stock tanks with gambusia, which are basically plain guppies. If I pulled out just 5 big ones a week from one tank, I would eventually empty it out. You'd have a hard time growing enough convicts in a 10 to feed an oscar too.

I would just train him to pellets, frozen food, or buy feeders at your lfs. We do need to buy from our local fish store from time to time or they will go out of business, like so many have. I consider any money I spend at my lsf's to be supporting local small businessmen and women and always leave with a smile on my face.
