Sorry for these very newbish questions but I'm wondering if I could breed and sell fish to the LFS for store credit. I am thinking about starting easy with guppy’s maybe? This is my first time trying to breed. I'm not in it so much for the store credit, but for the learning experience. I do how ever want to make some money in store credit that would be nice. How much money can be expected to make from selling guppies to a store? $.30 each, $1.00 each? I have no Idea the price range, I know it varies different fish but I need an Idea. My fish stores are Petco, Petsmart, and House of Tropical’s. I prefer House of Tropical’s any day.

Generaly you will spend more on breeding than you will recieve in credit but as for exact prices I don't know. I do know for a fact that Petsmart and Petco will not buy any of your fish they recieve all their fish from major distrubitors.

Thank you, so I will spend more money breeding then I will be makeing even if I have everything to start reading?

Try discus. They are one of the few fish that can be profitable to breed.

An alternative is to join a fish club and sell/trade through the club.

Capital cichlid association has a lot of members in your area (wee.capitalcichlids.org) and monthly meetings with auctions at each

Aquafest 2009 is in a couple of weeks as well

Check it out

ill be going to aquafest 2009 , but yea ull prolly end up spending more than ull gain. If your lucky house of tropicals may take some of ur guppies for cheap. You could prolly end up trading your guppies to them straight up rather than store credit. It also depends on the type of guppies, if your breeding the ugly feeder guppies they aint gunna be worth much but if you breed the fancier guppies you might get a little more. You could try breeding convict cichlids, there fairly easy to breed and they'll prolly be worth a little more than your guppes will. Thats if your just starting out those guys will be easy for you. you can always look at breeding discus or angels or green terror cichlids. personally if your going to breed. find the ones that you think look the coolest, that way if you cant find a way to get rid of them atleast you aint stuck with fish you dont like. google the image for each and pick which ones u like best, then come back to the breeding forum and do some research on the best way to breed them.

hm dont know about that? i imagine if you gave them to them at such a young age they would die, but if they take care of them correctly the fry should survive.

as in saltwater clownfish? youll prolly have better luck getting some money for thos considering saltwater fish in general are worth more. thr trouble there will be finding a store who would be willing to take your fish, 1 cuz saltwater is tougher to care for, 2 cuz parasite are a greatter risk. if your gunna sell for profite youd do better breeding them and then just posting em on here
